A Special Extra Help Charity Event
Cream tea in Devon ...

In November 2014, Louise and I decided to raise some money for our local hospital down here in Plymouth. As Extra Help was originally set up to help the older population we thought it was fitting to raise money for the elderly wards at Derriford Hospital ...
We contacted the hospital trust and gained their permission and approval to hold an event. We chose to hold a different kind of event, as we live in Devon we thought cream tea was fitting. We settled on afternoon tea at a local hotel and thought we'd continue the theme for the afternoon by focusing on elderly people and people living with Dementia.
"We had two great speakers join us!"
Firstly, Celia Delaney, who is a jazz singer and professional speaker. Celia entertained us with her stories and a spot of singing, which was fabulous.
We also had Gina Awad, a Dementia Friends Champion, who enlightened us all on Dementia and how people live with it and how every case is different. It was a hugely enlightening talk, inspiring Louise and I to further our knowledge on Dementia from becoming friends to Dementia Champions ourselves.
The afternoon itself was a great success and lots of people joined us for the afternoon tea at Boringdon Hall, which is a stunning venue dating back to 1640. Everyone really enjoyed the speakers and of course amazing sandwiches and cakes.
We held a raffle with lots of people kindly made donations to this. We had some great prizes including afternoon tea for 2, bottles of wine and whisky, boxes of chocolates, scatter cushions, a VIP pass to Exeter race course and lots more.
In total we raised £210 for the hospital, which Louise and I presented to the ward sister in December. I think I have the fundraising bug now as I've decided to do a 10k obstacle race called Rock Solid in Exeter on 22nd March, this time raising money for the Alzheimer's Society. If you'd like to sponsor me for this event you can do by visiting my JustGiving page.
"Could you make a donation to help support the Alzheimer's Society?"
And finally, I'd like to say a special thank you to Russell Soper from Soperfect Images for giving his time up and taking these wonderful pictures for us.
Until next time ...
