In Claire's own words ...

Our Buckingham Franchisee Claire Harris has been a part of Extra Help from the very beginning, joining us in 2010 as a Home Helper in Milton Keynes. Claire showed a great passion for helping her clients and asked if she could do more ...
extra help can help your loved ones stay independent for longer
Claire was trained to attend initial client consultations and from there her desire grew. Claire joined us 6 weeks ago as the Buckingham and Towcester Franchisee. Her details can be found on our main Website.
We asked Claire - Why did you buy an Extra Help franchise?
"Easy, I believe in what Extra Help are trying to achieve, I know from first-hand experience the strain caring for an elderly relative can cause a family.
My nan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's over 10 years ago, but even before the diagnosis, she needed some extra help. As she got older and less able to do things for herself - like shopping and cleaning - the responsibility of helping her then fell on my parents. I always remember when I was a child and my nan seemed so full of life and able to do anything, I would spend hours with her playing cards and going to her local bingo group which she was the caller at.
But as with most people, as she got older she became less able and as the Alzheimer's progressed, the pressure put on my parents got greater. Yes carers did come in, but they were always on a tight time schedule, and only had time to put food in the microwave and make sure nan had taken her pills. There was never any time for a chat, and it was always a different carer each time, as the Alzheimer's progressed my nan found this very confusing and upsetting.
It was up to my parents to do everything else for my nan - shopping, cooking, taking her to hospital appointments, making sure she got out at least once a week for a social event, organising her paperwork, doing odd jobs around the house. My parents did this for many years, putting a great strain on them as they both worked full time and had their own children and house to run, eventually nan went into a home and died last year age 91.
Extra Help means a lot to me, I am proud to say I can help people to remain independent as long as possible in their own home, and provide the help to the family as well. Extra Help is such a unique service, no other company out there provide as many services as we do, nor the continuity of the same helper each time, which I know is important for the client to build a rapport with their helper so they become not only their helper but their friend as well."
Finding Business owners with the right attitude is important to us, our franchisees then repeat the process when recruiting Home Helpers and Cleaners for their clients. Extra Helps Core values shine right the way through the company.

Sarah co-founded Extra Help in 2010, the same year that she became Director of the OakTree Networking company - and she hasn't looked back! Both companies are completely different, however each interacts with the community on a number of levels. Prior to starting Extra Help, Sarah owned her own domestic cleaning franchise which she successfully grew, featuring in the local and national press on many occasions. Working for the NHS at the start of her career gained Sarah invaluable experience in caring within the community - working with the elderly and terminally ill.
