Some people, especially those who have been living alone for some years, or just feel nervous about getting out and about, do not want to join in with activities for older people or social clubs ...

It is very important that we encourage elderly people to participate in activities, socialise and make new friendships in their area. There are many activities available that elderly people to take part in.
Age UK offer a great range of services for the elderly, such as, Gardening Club for those with an interest in gardening, Computer Help for those who are taking their first steps with using technology and many Lunch Clubs along with Saturday Club for socialising and getting out of the house.
The Royal Voluntary Service offers many physical activities such as dancing and exercise classes to help build up strength. There's also bingo, arts and crafts, talks to help understand pensions and finance and even cafes where they can simply pop by for a chat and a bite to eat.
One great activity we recently discovered was Singing For the Brain which is offered for people who have a passion for music and singing in which all abilities are welcome to go along and join in with the fun.
"Everyone deserves to socialise!"
If you have an elderly friend, relative or neighbour, why not encourage them to make new friends by finding a local activity for them to partake in? It's a great way to keep them active for longer.
Until next time ...
